Summary

The Gough lab at Virginia Commonwealth University seeks a postdoctoral scholar to join a NASA-funded project coupling ground- and airborne remote sensing with eddy-covariance and chamber derived carbon flux data to advance cross-scale understanding of ecological processes within the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. Research themes of interest include, but are not limited to: carbon cycling and sequestration, atmosphere-biosphere interactions, drivers of biogeochemical cycling, land-use change and disturbance effects on ecological processes, and the factors governing ecosystem resilience. In addition, the postdoc will mentor student participants in NASA's Student Airborne Research Program (SARP) East. Most ground-truthing and field-based activities will take place at VCU's Rice River's Center, with periodic travel to partner sites in the region and NASA's Goddard Institute for training. The Gough lab is a collaborative, team-oriented group, with projects focused on forest and wetland carbon cycling, vegetation structure-function interactions, and disturbance ecology. A postdoctoral scholar will provide critical mentorship to undergraduate and graduate student collaborators, support project activities, and communicate project results through peer-reviewed publications and scientific meetings. Questions and inquiries are welcome: Chris Gough, cmgough@vcu.edu.

NOTE: The successful candidate understands that this is a restricted position and ongoing employment depends on continued funding.
