Position Summary:

The Ryan White Health Educator will market, coordinate, plan and implement HIV Education and Prevention training programs to and for health care providers at all levels, including state employees and members of community-based, AIDS Service Organizations (ASOs) throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia with a focus on Ryan White Part B Case Management and HIV Prevention Programs. The Virginia Ryan White Part B Capacity-building grant provides funding for training and capacity-building in Ryan White Part B Case Management Programs in Virginia. It also coordinates programming across Case Management Services in Ryan White Parts A, C & D case management programs in Virginia. The Virginia HIV/AIDS Resource and Consultation Center (VHARCC) provides funding for training and capacity-building in Virginia HIV Prevention & Care programs. The MidAtlantic AIDS Education and Training Center (MAAETC) provides funding for training of healthcare professionals in the field of HIV/AIDS across the USPHS Region 3. This position will involve working under all three grants (Capacity, VHARCC, and MAAETC) with a focus on Ryan White Part B Case Management and HIV Prevention Programs. Frequent (2 -3 times per month) overnight travel throughout Virginia is required several times a year for this position.

The Ryan White Health Educator will work collaboratively with and serve as a liaison between other health educators and clinicians at the Infectious Disease Clinic of the Virginia Commonwealth University, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), the VCU HIV Education Program, and the MidAtlantic AIDS Education and Training Center (MAAETC) to accomplish these goals.

Core Responsibilities:

• Responsibility 1: Community Partnerships (30%):

o Establish and maintain relationships with medical professionals within agencies including Ryan White Case Management Programs (Parts A, B, C, & D), HBCUs, Community-based organizations, AIDS Services Organizations, Local Health Departments and other applicable organizations.

o Maintain listserv of program participants and market upcoming programming at regular intervals o Maintain webpage of programming 2

o Participate in outreach through direct outreach, community events (Pride, Health Fairs, etc), and professional conference exhibits.

• Responsibility 2: Program Planning and Coordination of Didactic and Clinical Training (25%):

o Task 1: Coordinate with funders, fellow staff, content experts, and contractors to determine community training needs.

o Task 2: Coordinate curriculum development and funder approval with stakeholders incorporating most current treatment/intervention guidelines.

o Task 3: Provide program facilitation and education, depending on area of expertise, during training sessions.

• Responsibility 3: HIV/AIDS education training including prevention, counseling, testing, case management and related topics (25%):

o Task 1: Conduct training on topics related to HIV prevention and care using a variety of modalities including in-person, virtual, and asynchronous options.

o Task 2: Determine efficacy of program and participant readiness through direct observation of skills taught.

o Task 3: Coordinate all aspect of procurement and contracting of guest lecturers for programs.

o Task 4: Serve as lead planner for the annual Virginia Ryan White Case Management summit.

• Responsibility 4: Program administration (15%):

o Task 1: Build program registrations through learner management systems

o Task 2: Track attendance and assist participants with logistical issues registering o Task 3: Complete post-program evaluation, including sending certificates of completion, coordinating Continuing Education Units, and eliciting participant feedback through qualitative and quantitative measures.

• Responsibility 5: Information Management/Technical Assistance/Special requests (5%):

o Task 1: Complete post-program data analysis and assist in compiling funder monthly, quarterly, and annual reports

o Task 2: Provide technical assistance and respond to special requests to program participants as needed

o Task 3: Maintain confidentiality and protect participant records following the current guidelines of FERPA, HIPAA, and other prevailing regulations.

Minimum Hiring Standards:

• 3+ years working as a Ryan White Part B Case Manager (Medical or Non-Medical) or supervising RW CM programs

• Knowledge of HIV/STI prevention and care interventions including HIV Testing, PrEP, PEP, Ryan White Programs, etc.

• Knowledge of adult education principles and continuing professional development.

• Ability to set priorities and work independently. Strong organizational and time management skills.

• Ability to set goals, write learning objectives and develop promotional plans for educational programs.

• Strong interpersonal skills: ability to relate well to other health care professionals, 3 members of the VDH, Capacity, VHARCC, and MAAETC staff and public employees.

• Ability to interpret work plans and converts needs into comprehensive educational programs. Functions effectively in a culturally diverse environment.

• Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to utilize Microsoft Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher).

• Ability to operate equipment for programs-LCD projectors, laptops, webcams.

• Willingness to drive long distances during the day and evening. Significant degree of autonomy is required for this position. Occasional work during the evenings and weekends, as well as overnight travel will be required for off-site meetings, trainings conferences and other functions.

• Sensitive to confidential patient information and HIV/AIDS-related issues and controversies. Special licenses, registration or certification. Valid Driver's License is required.

• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Public Health, Nursing, Health Sciences or similar field.

• 5+ years' experience working in HIV Prevention and/or Care programs including HIV outreach, education, testing, and Ryan White services.

• Experience or training in adult education and/or program development.

• Experience training others and presenting at conferences.
