Assistant, Associate or Professor WOT (CT-ICU) - Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine

Position Description

Due to service expansion, the University of Washington Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine has academic critical care anesthesiologist positions available at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor.  This position is without tenure due to funding and is full-time or part-time with an anticipated start date as early as September 2024 or thereafter.  The successful candidate will have significant clinical effort in the Cardiothoracic ICU (CTICU) caring for patients recovering from cardiac, thoracic and major vascular procedures.  In addition to clinical duties directing the multidisciplinary Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit team, candidates with training in cardiothoracic anesthesiology will join the Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology team.  Those with general critical care credentials will have the opportunity to provide multispecialty anesthesia services at the UW Medical Center Montlake Campus or as a member of the anesthesiology team at Harborview Medical Center.  University of Washington faculty engage in teaching residents, fellows and medical students as well as participating in research/scholarship and service.  Contributions in these areas are expected.  Ample opportunities are available for creation of innovative educational pathways for learners at all levels as well as academic pursuits in quality, safety and research.  The University of Washington Heart Institute performs over 75 cardiac transplants and over 60 lung transplants per year.  The ECMO program managed over 80 individual patients in the last year.  The service is expected to expand with opportunities for management of all aspects of mechanical support including plans for an ECMO retrieval service.  Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, fellowship training in adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology.

Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30).  Associate Professors and Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30).  Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.  Salary and academic appointment at University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank.  The base salary range for these positions will be:  Assistant Professor $29,532 - $31,337 per month ($354,384 - $376,044 annually), Associate Professor $33,843 - $34,181 per month ($406,116 - $410,172 annually), and Professor $35,657 - $37,151 ($427,884 - $445,812 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a US Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.  This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University.  Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations.  Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through the UWP practice plan.  Compensation provided by the UWP practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.  For practitioners holding an appointment in the physicians practice plan, see the link for additional benefits that may be available at UWP:  https://faculty.uwmedicine.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/UWP-Benefits-Summary-for-recruitingef-edits-v3.pdf.

Qualification

Must have MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent).  At the time of employment, must be Board certified or eligible (or foreign equivalent) in anesthesiology and must have fellowship training in critical care medicine with commensurate special certification, eligibility or foreign equivalent.  Must be eligible for medical licensure in state of Washington.  In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-US) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the US Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
