Director of Programs & Initiatives
The National Association of Investment Companies (NAIC) is the trade association and largest network of diverse- and woman-owned alternative investment funds. NAIC's membership is comprised of more than 185 firms representing $305 billion in aggregate assets under management (AUM). They represent a vibrant and growing population of alternative investment firms, with track records and ongoing performance that are competitive with the broader market, often outperforming their non-diverse counterparts. We are focused on increasing the flow of institutional capital to high-performing diverse investment managers, producing unique and compelling research and developing initiatives to strengthen and position the industry for future success.

As our organization and member base expands, we seek an experienced and innovative Director of Programs & Initiatives. The ideal candidate will be energetic, forward-thinking, an adept team player and responsible for planning, development, implementation, and measurement of all NAIC programs and initiatives. This includes directing the efforts of the event planning consultants, MBA Fellows and coordination at the strategic and tactical levels with the other functions of the organization.
While NAIC is based in Washington, DC, our staff is 100% remote, with a possible requirement of up to 10% travel.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (includes, but is not limited to):
- Providing leadership and direction on all of NAIC's programmatic content
- Implementation and evaluation of programs with emphasis on measurable outcomes using data and best practices
- Prioritization of programmatic objectives, activities, and budget needs
- Continuation and development of team-based approaches to program execution
- Integration of programmatic activities as well as effective use of NAIC staff, fellow and consultant capacity
- Promotion of shared accountability, effective management, and production of high-quality experiences for all stakeholders.
The Director of Programs & Initiatives works independently and collaboratively with NAIC's team to direct, develop, manage, and implement activities across our three focal areas of Increasing Access to Capital, Delivering Market Education and Addressing Industry Challenges.
This position also requires a proven, forward-thinking, and dynamic individual to provide proactive leadership and vision in developing new, innovative programs. This includes having:
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, organizational, and writing skills
- Strong relationships throughout the financial services field and across other sectors
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills
- Discretion, sound judgment, and political acumen.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working nationally while understanding the contexts that shape and frame our segment of the financial services industry. The position requires a clear understanding and empathy for the challenges faced by diverse-owned investment firms; a firm grasp of project management, effective management of competing priorities; and knowledge/understanding of the needs of alternative investment firms throughout their life cycles, and across asset classes.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT, DIRECTION, AND MANAGEMENT
- Develop and effectively direct programmatic activities to ensure substance, relevance and timeliness of content
- Ensure programmatic excellence through development and implementation of innovative performance and outcomes measures
- Ensure and direct the development of regular and timely programmatic updates across all programs to ensure cross-pollination of ideas, knowledge-building, and resource sharing
- Monitor national initiatives in the alternative investment management space as well as programmatic innovations and best practices from other sectors to ensure that NAIC program staff remains well-informed
- Ensure that innovations and best practices are incorporated into NAIC programmatic activities
- Lead the collaborative development of survey, monitoring and evaluation tools.
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure complete compliance with all sponsor and partner commitments as they relate to NAIC programs
STRATEGIC/THOUGHT LEADERSHIP
- Staying abreast of issues that impact the broader alternative investment industry and leveraging that knowledge to develop relevant content for the various NAIC stakeholder groups
- Increase NAIC's public profile by serving as a spokesperson and advocate, as well as a visible and influential leader in public health.

Our Director of Programs & Initiatives can expect an annual salary of $135,000, commensurate with experience, and will enjoy a suite of benefits including:

Requirements:
- A minimum of 8 years in the event management industry or similarly relevant field
- Bachelor's degree required, masters degree welcomed
- Well-honed project and priority management skills
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, organizational, and writing skills
- Strong relationships throughout the financial services field and across other sectors (preferred)
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills
- Discretion, sound judgment, and political acumen.
