Maintenance Mechanic
Position Description
General Job Description
Performs maintenance and machine repair work on various machines and equipment. Works from written work orders or direct supervision of department supervisor. Performs maintenance welding on equipment and building. Required to work in awkward positions in performing maintenance work, including stooping, crawling, and climbing to significant heights. Uses a variety of powered and hand tools as well as powered industrial trucks and manual hand trucks and overhead hoists. Uses blueprints and sophisticated measuring devices. Lays out steam, water, and air lines. Works closely with Electricians and other maintenance mechanics. Reports improper equipment operation and defective equipment to Supervisor. Due to the changing nature of maintenance work, must be able to complete any workshops, seminars, etc. as deemed necessary. Records time and production and performs other duties as required.
Education Level Required
High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience or Training Required
Requires reading, writing, adding, subtracting, ability to operate powered industrial trucks and manual hand trucks, ability to operate welding equipment, ability to read blueprints, micrometers, and gauges, and following of instructions. Must be able to successfully master all elements of training control document for this job.
Essential Job Functions (the fundamental job duties)
- Performs maintenance and machine repair work on various machines and equipment using a wide variety of tools.
- Receives written work orders from Supervisor and performs work as specified on the work order.
- Operates welding equipment in performing maintenance work on equipment and building.
- Performs various regularly scheduled maintenance inspections including press inspections, industrial truck inspections, etc.
- Works from blueprints to install and repair equipment.
- Frequently works closely with Electricians and other maintenance mechanics.
- Regularly operates powered industrial trucks and manual hand trucks and overhead hoists while performing various duties.
- Lays out steam, water, and air lines.
- Reports improper equipment operation and defective equipment to Supervisor.
- Records time and production.
- Works eight-hour shift concurrently with other plant operations. Periodic daily and weekend overtime as production schedules demand.
- May be assigned task of training new/transferred employees as required.
- Other essential functions as may be assigned.
