Job Description
BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
This is manual, semi-skilled work involving the performance of a variety of duties relating to general laboring. Work is subject to spot checking for appearance and conformance with instructions and acceptable standards of workmanship. Functional contacts include co-workers, service department employees, and occasionally administrative personnel at the job location, with casual contact with other university staff and students.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
Carry materials and supplies, operate hand tools, power tools and mechanical equipment as necessary to accomplish work assigned. Clean, oil and make minor repairs to tools and equipment, move, assemble and deliver furniture (desks, filing cabinets, chairs and bookshelves); move, transport and assist in the installation of heavy equipment, materials and various other items.
Perform custodial duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to read and write.
- Ability to comprehend and apply specific oral and written instructions.
- General mechanical ability including operation of basic tools and equipment at a semi-skilled level.
- Mechanical aptitude, above average strength and physical coordination.
- Ability on a daily basis to grasp, lift, carry and set down heavy objects (50-75 lbs.)
- A valid driver's license may be required.
