President/CEO
- General Description:
The President/Chief Executive Director (CEO) reports to the Lynchburg Community Action Group, Inc. (LynCAG) Board of Directors and is responsible for achieving the Agency’s mission and objectives. The President/CEO provides policy guidance, program planning and design, oversight and monitoring to insure the accomplishment of LynCAG’s goals in its catchment area that includes the City of Lynchburg; the towns of Amherst and Bedford; and the Counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, and Campbell in Central Virginia.
- Qualifications:
The President/CEO provides leadership and oversight over all Agency grants and ensure that administrative execution of the grants complies with guidelines, regulations, and reporting requirements of funding sources. The President/CEO is responsible for development of human resource and personnel policies; personnel related programs including staff compensation, benefits, development; and legal/administrative responsibilities relating to promotion, demotion, and discipline of the Agency’s staff.
- Job Responsibilities of the President/CEO:
- Leadership/Management
- Provides leadership in development of programs, organizational and financial plans with the LynCAG Board and program directors.
- Directs staff and Agency resources in the implementation of programs as required by funding sources. Promotes active and broad participation of staff in all areas of the Agency’s involvement.
- Carries out plans and policies authorized by the LynCAG Board and keeps the Board fully informed on all matters of the Agency.
- Ensures full compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations.
- Assures that a long range strategy is in place to achieve the Agency’s mission and that progress is monitored through various reports, evaluations, and reviews.
- Responsible for the sound financial management of the Agency’s monetary resources and that internal controls are monitored for effective fiscal operations.
- Ensures adequate security of the Agency’s property and equipment and that the property is maintained, this includes rented and/or leased equipment.
- Provides regular reports to the Board of Directors on Agency operations, usage of Program funds, and clients served by the Agency programs.
- Ensures that an effective management team is in place and works with the Board of Directors on the development of an appropriate succession plan.
- Organizational Planning/Development
- Provides policy and procedure guidance under which the Agency’s staff can operate and delegates assignments consistent with program objectives and Agency policy.
- Provides planning and program design which involves development and articulation in grant and contract applications of program goals, objectives, procedures, processes, and budget priorities.
- Provides oversight and monitoring that measures program outcomes and whether those outcomes are consistent with Agency goals and objectives.
- Ensures that job descriptions are developed, that regular evaluations are conducted for the purpose of employee development and compensation, and that sound human resource practices are in place that mitigate personnel conflict and promote work place efficiency.
- Maintains and up-to-date organizational chart. Maintains a work environment that promotes employee growth and quality with a passion for community service.
- Public Relations/Community Involvement
- Establishes a sound working relationship with community organizations in order to develop a collaborative approach to meeting community needs.
- Acts as the Agency’s spokesperson with regards to public information. Represents and promotes the Agency’s programs and the Agency’s official position as it relates to events, conditions, and opportunities that may have an impact on the community.
- Coordinates presentations to community, church and civic groups that promote the Agency’s programs and services for the purpose of public information, education, recruitment of volunteers, and building a community financial support base.
- Fulfills all other assigned responsibilities, duties, and task pertaining to client needs, domestic violence issues not specifically listed within this job description that are requested by the President/CEO.

Position Information:
- Full-time position
- Requires a minimum of a B.A. or B.S. Degree in Human Services or related field, plus at least 4 years of experience in such chosen field, preferably at the supervisory level.
- All communications are potentially sensitive and are subject to Lynchburg Community Action Group’s policy on confidentiality.
The position is based in Lynchburg, Virginia and requires some travel. A valid driver’s license, excellent driving record and reliable transportation are required.
