Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Advisor II, Careers NH Title III (G) meets with students to implement career assessments, collect relevant data, and provide program management related to incorporating career advising into the curriculum. Tracks academic progress and success of undecided students. Assists project manager in planning and developing successful academic support programming and events.

This is a temporary, grant-funded position. Continuation of the position from one academic year to the next is dependent upon continued grantfunding.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Advises students in assigned departments/disciplines. Meets with students regularly to track their academic progress, success and implement career accelerator program
  2. Assists students with reviewing their Academic Advising Report and creating MEP (My Educational Plan) for undecided students
  3. Advises students on proper course selection for assigned discipline/department credit certificate and degree programs and makes referrals to non-credit certificate programs
  4. Acquires and processes data regarding students in the assigned discipline to complete job function
  5. Collaborates with personnel across departments (college staff and faculty) to identify potential early interventions needed
  6. Refers students to counselors, college resources (organizations) and outside organizations when necessary
  7. Assists the Directors/Managers in planning and developing successful academic/career support programming and events
  8. Develops department/position objectives and strategies
  9. Maintains accurate documentation of meetings and collects data relevant to Career Services
  10. Monitors processes, materials, and surroundings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all relevant rules, regulations, and policies at all times
  11. Establishes, documents, and follows a communication plan with students
  12. Assists in planning and implementation of career services events
  13. Refers students for career assessments and helps to analyze data
  14. Gives presentations on Career Services in classrooms and in cooperation with faculty
  15. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

  • Proficiency with standard office software

  • Strong attention to accuracy and detail for tracking of student success and student educational plans
  • Ability to communicate and work well with all levels of students

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in a higher education setting
  • Experience in career services and/or placement
  • Experience working with students who have unique barriers and experience in assisting these students with their educational success
Salary

Hiring salary range is $44,793 - $51,512.

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
