Organist & Choir Director
Position: Organist/Choir Director
Farmville Presbyterian Church in Farmville, VA is seeking a part-time combined Organist/Choir Director.
Farmville Presbyterian is a congregation of 106 located in central Virginia roughly 60 miles from Richmond, Lynchburg and Charlottesville. We have one weekly service with a choir of 6-8 in summer and 10-12 in the fall/winter/spring seasons. The choir is supplemented in the non-summer seasons by up to four music majors from Longwood University.
Our organ is a Beckerath tracker with two manuals and 32 pedals. It was installed in 1968 and refurbished in 2008.
The primary responsibilities as organist are coordination with the minister on service music (hymns, prelude, offertory and postlude) mostly to be played on our organ. The responsibilities as director are weekly planning and rehearsal of service music (introit, anthem, and benediction), and directing the choir during the one weekly service. Music is also needed for special services such as Maundy Thursday, Christmas Eve, and the occasional funeral.
The position is estimated to require 10 – 15 hours weekly (lighter in summer and more at Christmas and Easter). The salary is competitive for the area. Benefits are four weeks of vacation, two Sundays of sick leave, and the church pays its portion of social security.
