Non-Exempt, Full Benefits. Starting at $27.10 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience, plus an additional 5% for a Bachelor's Degree and/or 2.5% for intermediate Spanish ability.
The Springfield Police Department is limiting the number of times an applicant can apply to the same job. The Springfield Municipal Jail began accepting inmates on January 29, 2010. The 100 bed facility is the largest municipal jail in the State of Oregon. Effective July 2017, the Springfield Municipal Jail is housing female inmates. In accordance with the 2003 Federal PREA Act, female applicants may be given preference in order to meet the job requirements and correctional standards.
Springfield Detention Officer Minimum Requirements:
- 21 years of age by time of appointment
- High school diploma or GED certificate from an accredited school
- Valid Oregon Driver's License by time of appointment
- United States citizen, or obtain citizenship within one year of appointment
- No felony convictions
- Ability to pass a background investigation
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen
- Obtain DPSST Certification as a Corrections Officer or successful completion of the
- State of Oregon DPSST Corrections Officer Certification within twelve (12) months from the date of appointment.
- Ability to meet physical, medical and psychological requirements for the position (see Oregon Administrative Rule 259-008-0010 Minimum Standards for

- Refrain from tobacco products while on duty
- Ability to work rotating shifts and assignments, report for duty at any time an emergency arises, and work overtime with little or no notice

Testing:
Written testing and physical testing is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, February 11, 2023.
Applicants invited to test will be contacted via email with additional testing details.
You will be required to show picture identification at the time of the written test.
All candidates must be present to complete written and physical testing. NO PREVIOUS ORPAT SCORES WILL BE ACCEPTED.
*There is currently no study guide provided by the test creator for the Detention Officer written test.

Position Overview:
The City of Springfield has exciting opportunities in our Police Department for experienced Lateral Police Officers. SPD is dedicated to providing the best available law enforcement and accountability services to our community. This includes our 100 bed Municipal Jail located in our Justice Center- the largest municipal jail in the State of Oregon. Because of this tremendous resource, Springfield does not have a capacity-based release program for misdemeanor cases.

Lateral Police Officer Requirements:
We are interested in finding Police Officers who are in good standing with their current/ most recent employer as a sworn Police Officer for a recognized state, county, city or municipal entity and have at least two years of patrol experience. Those who are currently certified as Police Officers in Oregon, or able to obtain Oregon DPSST certification if a police officer in another state, are eligible to apply for the lateral police officer position. Police certification must be VALID and CURRENT. Military Police, federal officer, reserve officer, security officer and corrections experience do not meet the requirement for relevant experience.

Compensation:
Successful laterals with at least 4 years of applicable experience, will come in at pay step 4: $38.25/ hour (approx. $79,560 annual). Candidates will less than 4 years of experience will be offered a pay step commensurate with their related experience.
Additional Premium pays:
•DPSST Intermediate: 5%
•DPSST Advanced: 10%
•Bachelor's Degree: 5%
•Foreign Language Fluency: 5%
Relocation reimbursement for actual costs up to $5,000 may be available if incumbent is relocating greater than 100 miles.
Testing & Selection Process:
Candidates considered for the Lateral Police Officer position will be identified through a series of screening tools and tests including an Employment Application, Qualifying Questionnaire (part of the application), Physical Ability Test, Psychological Exam, Comprehensive Background, Medical Examination to include drug screening for controlled substances, and Oral Interviews. All testing and selection processes will be done in accordance with the Oregon Veterans' Preference in Public Employment Law.
Aptitude, personality profile, mental and physical fitness, and communication skills will all be evaluated.
