POLICE OFFICER Testing Announcement

PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE ANNOUNCEMENT & PRINT FOR REFERENCE

The City of Bristol is accepting applications for Police Officer testing to establish an eligibility list to fill future vacancies.  The expected duration of the selection process is estimated to be a minimum of three (3) months to a maximum of two and one half (2 ½) years.  Initial testing requires successful completion of a written and oral examination.  Additionally, successfully passing a physical ability test, psychological, medical exam including drug screen, polygraph examination and extensive background investigation are required prior to hire.

VETERANS PREFERENCE:  5 points will be added to a final passing score (maximum score = 100 points) for veterans who have completed a minimum of 90 days of active military service with an honorable discharge or a discharge under honorable conditions.  Copy of Form DD-214 Member-4 can either be uploaded when completing the employment application by June 12, 2024, or submitted in person at the written exam test on Thursday, June 20, 2024.  Failure to provide adequate paperwork by the written test date will forfeit your eligibility to receive veteran’s points.

CURRENT SALARY RANGE:  $73,220 - $89,002/year.

SALARY RANGE EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2026:  $80,783 - $98,195/year.

Note:  General wage increases occur each July 1st through July 1, 2026.  Annual salaries accessible in the Police Contract.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AT TIME OF APPLICATION:

  • Must be 21 years of age by 08-31-24 High School Diploma or GED United States Citizen

WRITTEN EXAM IS SCHEDULED FOR THURSDAY, JUNE 20, 2024.  A separate email will go out inviting applicants to this process after our closing deadline for applications.  You are NOT REQUIRED to have a CHIP Card to gain entrance into the written or oral examination processes.

NOTE: After a candidate successfully passes BOTH the WRITTEN and ORAL EXAM portions, they will be placed on the Eligibility List.
