Compensation and Benefits
Anticipated Hiring Salary: $5,787 per month
Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,787 - $7,396 per month
- This is a full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week), probationary, non-exempt position.
The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Job Summary
Under general supervision, incumbents in this classification perform the full range of skilled journey-level locksmith work. Incumbents in this classification assist in the development of master key systems and the design of special security devices and are independently responsible for the implementation and maintenance of these programs along with the Campus Key Policy. Incumbents in this classification also may provide instruction and lead direction to unskilled and semi-skilled workers.
Key Qualifications
- Work requires thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the locksmith trades, including complex access and control systems; a thorough knowledge of all types of locks, safes, fastening devices, and related hardware; working knowledge of electrical locking and security systems and devices; and a thorough knowledge of applicable state codes pertaining to the locksmith trade including those related to fire exits, door hardware and fastening devices.
- Must be able to perform journey-level locksmith work; use features of applicable access control systems; read, interpret and work from shop blueprints, plans, drawings, and specification; maintain computerized inventory and master locking systems records; prepare standard reports. Ability to code, cut, and impression keys along with the abilities to pick locks. Provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled workers; read and write at a level appropriate to the position and perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position. Incumbents may be required to operate vehicles or equipment that are related to skilled trades work.

Education and Experience
- These abilities are acquired through any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills acquired through completion of a locksmith's apprenticeship program.
- 4 years of journey-level experience as a Locksmith is required.
- Special Requirements:
- Incumbents will hold a license as a locksmith and are required to successfully complete a background check.
- Incumbents are required to possess a California Driver's License valid for the operation of any vehicle or equipment they are required to maintain and operate.
- Preferred Skills:
- 6 years of experience as a journey-level Locksmith.
- Asbestos and or Lead abatement certification.
- Fire Door and ADA certification with ability to maintain.
- Working knowledge of Medeco and Schlage Keyway systems.
